I just bought a 1985 Glastron. It sat in the hot desert sun for a couple of years and the gelcoat needs some work.
Attached is an image. On the image you can see the gelcoat:
Below the bumper looks decent. My thoughts are 1) light polishing, 2) 3 coats of wax.
Below the bumper the gelcoat is faded and the texture is slightly grainy. When I rub(bed) it (before cleaning it with water) a slight amount of chalk came off in my hand. Now, when I wet it, it gets darker and some of the sparkle comes through but it remains dull, and the texture un-smooth (slightly grainy, but a smooth grainy). Would this be slight, medium or heavy oxidation?
My thoughts for below the bumper are 1) rubbing compound for heavy oxidation, 2) polishing, 3) 3 coats of wax.
What are your thoughts and what products do you recommend?
