Gelcoat scraped off keel of boat.

I have a small area(1/2"W X 3"L)on the keel of my boat where the gelcoat has scraped off. I also have a couple of real nasty gouges in the front where my dingbat father hit the end of the dock. Can I fill these in with marinetex then sandit smooth once it cures? I will be putting a keel gaurd on so I don't care how it looks I just want it to hold up. <br />Thanks

If you are covering it with a keel guard, you could use Marine tex. I had similar issues and used 2 part epoxy after grinding away the bad fibers. I ground to good clean glass and used epoxy with cloth to build the areas back out, and left it at that. I could care less what my hull bottom looks like, it is in the water. Good luck....
