gelcoat without wax in it, other additive options?

Hi
I'm doing some gelcoat repair on my transom top.
The gelcoat I got does not have wax in it. and of course is a bit tacky and hard to sand. After doing some reading I discovered I could cover the gelcoat with plastic film.
the food wrap that I used was hard to put on and would wrinkly. Is there another product / method I can use to provide an airtight seal, IE: future floor wax sprayed on?
The reason I ask is it's a far drive to the FG supply place. I know there is also PVA but I do noy know where to get near me, maybe at NAPA?

Thanks for your help

Misting PVA is ok, but it is difficult to spray the right amount and disperse it evenly. I'd put on another layer of gelcoat with the proper wax surfacing agent.

I would order some surfacing agent (wax) from an online source if the drive is too far. I don't know of anything else you can use. You will have to coat the unwaxed with a mixture of waxed. This is where I get all my supplies.. (link is to the surfacing agent) http://www.mertons.com/Additives/surfacing.html

I wouldn't think that shipping would be much.

Thanks I have read that post several times, unfortunately I did it after I purchased the gelcoat.
I should have done more reading and searching before I bought the gelcoat.
I'm going to keep working with the plastic wrap. If it proves to be to much work I will make to long drive back to the supplier and get the wax. While I'm there I'll give the guy a smack.)

Thanks for the help guys!

Ok just pealed off the plastic wrap. What a job that was!
where it was wrinkled the plastic stuck to and in the gelcoat:'(
So I had to sand it all down.
Guess what?? Tomorrow I'm off to the FG suppliers to get some wax addative and thinners.
Then try it again. This is one of those tasks in life that takes some practise before I get it right.
Oh well the gelcoat that I have put on so far has done a great job of filling all of the imperfections in my transom glassing work d:)

I've got to get this done and get my boat out of our single car garage( that's where the wife parks) :%
Anyway thanks for your help guys!

You can wipe off the sticky surface with acetone, you should be able to sand it or do what you want to after that.

Make sure you buy some mineral spirits too.

what does the mineral spirits do ? thin out the mixture
for spraying, or something else?

Picked up the styrene with wax in it AKA air dry.
and will experiment with it.

Thanks

OK I re did the top of my transom and back of my well.
It worked great, easy to sand and very hard.
I brushed this on.
I did try shooting some on a piece of board and it turned out really nice. I used a touch up gun with a 2 mm nozzle.
For the back outside of the transom I'm going to spray it on.
Once again thanks for your support guys.
