Can anyone give me some info or somewhere to go about how to re-gel coat a boat. The hull is a 72 and pretty faded. Is it someting that sprays on like auto paint?

Re: GelCoat

No - Gelcoat is not a spray job. Gelcoat is the outer layer on the grp, the first they put in the mould when building it.

If it is faded beyond rubbing and polish I'd consider Vertglas or similar. Works amazing and restores the original coat.

Another way is to paint it (or have a car paint shop do it). Paint is much more glossy than gelcoat and will make any little buckle stand out.

Different solutions, different procedures for different results.

Re: GelCoat

gel coat can be sprayed on to a hull we do this after repairs. True gelcoat is the first layer on a glass boat for this reason when sprayed it will dry with a sticky finish to allow the resin and glass fibres to stick to it. when used as a top coat you can add wax and styrene at 2.5% to it to take the sticky action out or when dry you can wash it with acatone untill it is no longer sticky then sand it with 220,320,500 sand paper and final finish is obtained with cutting and polish

So what is it that you put on the hull to make it nice and silky smooth like a new boat? I would really like to restore my Hull to that condition.

Paint it.

You can spray gel caot, as described, but that is normally a repair job. Doing a whole boat is a MAJOR undertaking.

You will be happy with paint. The high quality marine paints have a gloss that rivals gel coat.
