Gen 2 to Gen 1 transom Assy?

Is it possible to go from a Gen 2 Alpha one to a Gen 1 Alpha one transom assy?
I have a 1996 in need of engine and outdrive and found a donor boat that is a 1988...is this possible?

They both have the same cutout in the transom.

Thats great news Don.....found a donor boat with 4.3 and Alpha one and he wants $1000 for boat and trailer....way less than I thought I would have into this project....time to check her out!!
