Ran into a problem today ...... I'm in the process of changing over my 2002 Merc 125 Saltwater Classic outboard side mount control. I managed to get my hands on a 4000 Gen II Shifter Assembly, this style of controller will only use Gen II trottle and shifter cables which makes my old merc one's useless. Installing the controller was no problem and of course fishing the new cables was a pian in the butt. After all the work was done it was time to connect it to the motor shifter assemby ..... this is where I have a problem ..... the cable adjustment is not long enought to sit onto the gear shifter assembly. Has anyone out there installed the Gen II cables on a 2002 Merc?? Are the shifter assembly the same on the 02 nd 03 Merc outboards ?
