I have 2 gen IV 454 blocks one has 4 bolt mains one has 2 bolt mains. The 4 bolt engine is basicly a paper wieght, the 2 bolt main engine is fine other than some intermix present. Question1: can the heavy duty oil pan and the oil pump from the 4 bolt main engine be placed on the 2 bolt main engine? Question 2: the manifold and the cyl head from the 4 bolt main engine shows some rusting in the bore of the intake and cylinder head in the #6 area. Also on the 2 bolt main engine the #6 cylinder head in the valve area is rusted, is this common for gen IV 454 engines and on the rebuild can it be prevented?

Re: Gen IV 454 Rebuild Question

Pan should fit. Check pickup length. I would get a new pump. If you have an open cooling system you will show rust in the manifold and heads where the water flows only.

Ayuh,.... Sounds like the exhaust is leakin' back into the motor,....

The gasket 'tween the manifold, 'n riser is the most likely culprit...
