Should I staighten alum. prop blades and grind off flakes/shards...seems I hit something fairly often...or run aground I guess...does everyone have this issue...or is debris so common...??

Noise/Vibration: I understand 2 cycle motors are loud....and they rattle... Everything is torqued to spec...is this fairly normal?? Other than that motor runs fine
.

Finally, I use 50:1 ratio, but have head 32:1 is better..opinions?

Many Thx.

I have seen some really dinged up alum props and yes alum yields when you hit somehting. If the engine doesn't like the blade shape it will vibrate and you can see and feel it. It's best to have the blades balanced to put an equal (even) load on the propshaft.

If this continues to be a problem, you might consider investing in a SS prop. They sell him here.

Nicks don't hurt anything. Bending a blade back from being bent could cause it to fracture since it is a casting and cast alum can only take one good bend.....the bend that deformed it.

Back in the '50's OMC did a lot of advertising about making their engines quiet (www.old-omc.de). Included in that was vibration isolation because at the time they only made 2 cylinder outboards (alternate firing....for smoothness......twins).

Also there is no muffler so they bury the exhause in the prop wash to get rid of it in an attempt to reduce noise.

50:1 is most commonly used today with the fine lubricants available meeting the TCW-3 spec. Using more oil just makes for more smoke, carbon buildup, and faster sparkplug fouling.

Since we can't see your engine we have no idea what year, make, model, HP it is so we can't tell you what fuel/oil ratio to use. As for the prop, if its bent, chewed up and otherwise beat up, replace it or have it rebuilt. Vibration can damage things. Older two strokes tend to sound a little "loose" so I'd say yes, they are noisy.

minor nicks can be smoothed, I use a file and a drill-mounted grinding wheel extra fine...leading edge should be rounded. If you remove a lot of material you'll throw it out of balance. Try a local prop shop lot of time damage can be fixed. It can make a big difference in your performance.

Use the ratio recommended by the manufacturer for your motor (whatever that might be).
