Looking at freshining up a M50D2...Do they make a complete gasket kit? complete carb rebuild kit? complete water pump kit? as apposed to ordering each part seperately so to speak. I have no experience with Tohatsu and know this varies by manufacturer. Would these parts be in stock, typically?

Are intake reeds available seperately or only as the reed cage assy.?

What do oem test props typically cost...available?

Thanks

Re: General parts questions...

Thanks GURU...I will call on Monday and get things going. How do the reeds typically look after fifteen years and exposed to blended fuels? I will have possesion shortly and want to do the mechanicals at home before installing on the boat.

Thanks

Re: General parts questions...

You would order:
3C8871222M CARBURETOR KIT 40/50D-D2 $103.97 (does all 3 carbs)
3C887121AM POWERHEAD GASKET SET $84.93
3C8873223M WATER PUMP REPAIR KIT $57.93

Also available is the Chrome water pump kit, though it has never been very popular:
3C8652313M CHROME PLATED WATER PUMP KIT $123.05

If you have cracked/distorted reeds, you would order qty. three:
3T5021001M REED VALVE ASSY $49.52

Re: General parts questions...

Generally, Jap reeds do not usually need to be replaced. You never see a chipped or broken one and one that has come out of spec is rare...That doesn't mean you shouldn't check it, it just means you won't end up needing one.

Re: General parts questions...

Trying to use the online parts ordering process. I am a little unsure of the correct brand/year of my model for parts reference. I was led to believe it was a 97-98'. It is a Tohatsu model M50D2 3E3 #59490 dark gray. That model number in the 97-98' vintage shows up as a NS designation. The M designation shows it being a 03'. This may very well be entirely irrevelant but I would rather ask than create confusion. Hoping for some clarification, thanks.

Re: General parts questions...

Year is irrelevant. Model is everything. NS is the prefix for Nissan, M for Tohatsu. NS and M motors are completely identical and interchangeable. Any dealer or website that is quoting parts based on year for Tohatsu motors should be viewed with suspicion. Use the part numbers I quoted and you will be OK.

Re: General parts questions...

The site I am referencing is often promoted on this forum. When I look at the index for my model 'M50D2' the index only list as a 2003...which I understand does not mean much for parts ordering. I believe the motor to be near a 97-98 model. But looking at the index in that vintage only shows a PDF for a 'NS50D2'. Sort-of reading between the lines here it sounds like you are saying both these vintages (97' vs. 2003) are the same parts for what is just a 50D2 dropping the M/NS meaningless designation?

I have been associated with parts ordering nearly my whole life. In general terms a production run of 7 years and encompassing two different labels being exactly the same, well....seems odd.

I do thank you pvanv for both your time and patience.

Re: General parts questions...

Tohatsu parts are ordered based on the model number. The year is not a factor. When Tohatsu makes a design change they change the model number.

Re: General parts questions...

One of the parts I need is related to the cowling. So my concern is I get the correct color and/or emblems. Being the model NS/M50D2 was offered from 97'-03' does that mean the base color aside from emblems never changed?

So a NS50D2 is for all intent and purpose the exact same as a M50D2? though we know the emblem is different.

If I simply fallowed my model # of M50D2 the PDF chart I read would make my motor a 2003...

Thanks for the help truly, but there "is" a difference if only in emblems and color between a NS/M model.

Re: General parts questions...

NS is Nissan and M is Tohatsu...Separate part books. If there is a paint or decal change, within a model number type, then you will see a serial number break in the parts book on that item. IE A model 1234AA1234 has three different widgets available. Each widget will have the serial numbers that it applies to next to it.

Re: General parts questions...

As Elvin said... Here are the listings from Tohatsu America for cowl parts for your model:

3E3S878021 DECAL SET M50D (P) TYPE $100.85
3E3S878011 DECAL SET M50D2 (F) TYPE $78.83

3E3S675210 TILT HANDLE 40/50D P TYPE $65.40
3C8S675210 TILT HANDLE 40/50D F TYPE $63.90

... so if you have a remote (P) model, you use a different decal set and "handle" than for the tiller model. FWIW, the P-type decal set is presently out of stock. The rest of the upper cowl parts are completely interchangeable.

Re: General parts questions...

Sooo...if ordering via the online PDF parts diagrams offered by the online site, should I use the PDF for my model (Tohatsu M50D2) which shows 2003 vintage? or use the PDF listed for my believed vintage (1997) which is only listed on the site under the Nissan NS50D2 model designation?

The on-line site list those two Models as PDF options for the 50D2 parts of which mine is the Tohatsu (M). If I understand correctly, I should be using the PDF for the M50D2 regardless of the PDF 'labeled' as 2003. As it likely includes all parts and supercedes for that model run up until a model/design change after 2003.

I am likely over analyzing this and want to thank everyone for thier time.

Re: General parts questions...

I have no idea what that particular Internet dealer may be using to correlate the parts, so I can't say. Tohatsu America does not sell direct to consumers, so does not have an online site of that type. The part numbers I gave you are the correct factory numbers that your dealer would use when placing an order with Tohatsu America. In any event, if you need Nissan-specific parts, you order those numbers. Likewise, if you need Tohatsu-specific parts, order the Tohatsu bits.

What actual part is it (by description) that you need?
