HI Everyone,

I have had my boat out on the water earlier last fall just after I bought it. But winter came on and I am restoring the deck so I haven't had it out since...

Anyway I was taking some pictures not too long ago and notice this adjustment plate right above the prop and was wondering what it is named and what does it do?? (see pic)

This is a 1975 Johnson 85hp motor.

Thanks

It is called a trim tab. It is used to reduce torque steer.

You adjust it to keep the boat from pulling from one way or the other, to make the boat go straight at WOT.

Ahh I see so it gives the boat a "front end alignment" so to speak. Thanks for the responses...I didn't know the name of it so I couldn't search it.

Thanks again

I was told as well as keeping boat straight it acts also as the anode whitch stops corrosion of the motor and should not be painted

Mercs used it as an anode. OMC used separate anodes located above the cavitation plate.
