That '85 Merc 115HP inline six is a good design. It has the modern ign system. It is 99 Cu in and about 300# which makes it have a good HP to weight ratio. It has excellent midrange and top end power and speed. It is challenged a bit on low end power due to the lower displacement.
I recommend you inspect the engine wiring, check the compression and inspect the color of the gear oil. That motor is 26 years old, so it is not worth too much dollars, but can be worth a bit to the owner.
