I am building a small 14 ft. skiff and trying to decide between electric or gas for power. I would like to purchase a small old gas kicker and am wondering,in general, what the thrust lbs. would be for a gas 2.5 h.p., 3 h.p., and a 5 h.p.?

blue bayou <br />The comparison of thrust between a trolling motor and a gas powered motor cannot be compared. If I were you, I would look for a decent 5 HP Motor and go with that on your 14'er. You will be dissapointed with preformance even with a high thrust electric motor, along with the fact that you can only go so far on the batteries charge.

Thanks for the information. I was leaning towards purchasing a gas engine. I'm not worried about speed, but I am worried about weight and running out of a charge. Now I just need to locate a good used engine. Anybody know of any for sale in northeast Florida?
