I am buying a 2003 Bayliner 2455 Cierra with 7000 BTU Air, Microwave, Hot water heater and Refrigerator plus a few other accessories like stereo and lights. I was wondering what size generator I would need, Would the plug on the boat be the same as a plug on a camper for the hook up and would the generator be noisy at night. The generator I have in mind has a db rating of 71/73. The generator folks are no help all they want to do is sell me a generator and will sell me the model they make the most money on. Any help will be greatly appreciated

Those portable Honda ones are nice and quiet. And they sell a pigtail that plugs into the end of the shore power cord (or your boat)and the other end is a standard 3 prong outlet you can plug into any standard 110 outlet.

Re: Generator Requirements

You have to determine how much wattage you will be using at one time. A 7000 btu per hour AC unit will use...7000 X .2951 = 2051.7 watts. That means the generator will have to produce more than 2000 watts just to run the AC. Generators should run at 70% max efficiency and not less than 35% minimum. A dealer should be able to assist you in choosing the size and showing you why you must have a certain size of unit. If you choose too small or too large it will not last long. Each individual will have a different requirement...even with the same equipment. <br />Go to sites like this to learn http://www.spectrawatermakers.com/edinger/genchoose.html ....and learn you must if you don't trust the dealers. :D

I've been wanting one of those Honda 2000's for some time now. You may not get to run the air conditioner but you'll be able to heat up hot water for a shower, run the microwave, watch some tv, with juice to spare. Price the marine ones. Then price one of these. I see people with these on there swim platforms all the time (in calm sheltered areas) Good luck! ;)
