Have an old Nitro Bass boat that the previos owner was a little sloppy when he replaced the carpet. There is excess glue all over the carpet and I would like to get it off but I/ve tried several things and nothing seems to work without damaging the carpet. Any ideas?

Nothing. Short of removing the carpet nothing.

I have no idea what you are actually dealing with for glue and what it looks like but like Bob_VT say's, there's no removal chemical (goof off, etc.) that won't destroy the carpet before the glue. The rubber backing will disolve in most cases.

If it's globs of glue you can try freezing it with a can of compressed air that's used for cleaning computers. You can get it at Office Depot. Just spray it until it turns frosty white, smack it with a hammer to shatter it and then vaccum it up.

If it's smears the only thing you can do is paint it. You'll need a fabric paint matched to the color of your carpet and that's not always easy to find. The trick with it is to just fog it until it's not as noticible, don't try to completely cover it our you'll end up having to paint the entire carpet.

That's a new one didn't know you could paint carpet. Any details?

You can buy fabric spray at fabric shops. It's a cover up and nothing more. I used it when I was a kid to change the interior color of a 66 Mustang... If I would have only known what that car would be worth today!@!.. Anyway, in this case it might just be the only solution.

I tested the goop stuff and yes the carpet came loose. Paint sounds like the only way out for now
