Getting at the plastic carb drain plug - 1990 25 HP tiller

I want to drain the gas out of the carb for winter storage. There is a round yellow/white plastic drain plug at the bottom front of the carb which I can get to if I remove the lower cowl. But that is a royal pain to do (trying to get the nut/bolt off on the front portion of the cowl) - so I wondered if there is a trick to getting at that drain plug without having to pull the cowl. It looks like I might be able to push the rubber grommet on the enrichment dial side of the front over to one side then get a screwdriver in there - but thought I would ask first.

Put motor in a test tank.---Start the motor.-----Disconnect the fuel hose and let motor run untill it stops.----Carburetor is now empty.

That is what I presently have done each year since 1990 - and so far - no problems - but I saw a post on one of the forums saying there is still some residue gas in the carb bowl so that got me to thinking of draining the carb through that round screw plug (if only I could get to it easily).
