I have a 27 Ft Bayliner Explorer, I want to take it off the trailer to paint the bottom. I've never been around big boats before and was wondering how to do this with out damaging the boat. Any help would be great!

Re: Getting Boat off Trailer for Painting

I have a 26' foot boat and our boats are small. boats around my way go 150 tons. Very easy to put bottom paint on while still on the trailer. Take some 6mil or less plastic that you can get at any hardware store. 6 mil is easier to handle. Cut a piece about 3-4 ' wide and about 10' foot long. Lay that plastic over the frame and wheel fenders and start painting. Also lay some plastic over your cross members.

The other way is you could use boat jacks which can be expensive if you have to buy, about $60.00 apiece and you will need about 3 on each side. You may also be able to rent them at a rental shop. If you are on hot top you need plywood so that the legs don't sink damaging the hot top.

:) It's best to go the plastic route :) ;)

Where do these things  :) :p come from????
Forgot to tell you ,get one extra jack so that you can remove a jack to paint that area where the first jack was and repeat around the boat.

Flyrod has it pretty much covered--I have my 32ft. on 4 jacks & wooden blocks at the hull low points. When I paint my hull I just lower one jack low enough to move and then paint that area.Be sure to bring jack back up to snug and then follow thru on the rest.I also dry storage on jacks for the winter.
Tight Lines Skinny
