Ok, newbie here and an Electrical idiot, so please bear with me.

Installing a Johnson 115 4 stroke (2005 Model year) with Analog tach. Tach has two posts, purple and black, with 8 pin plug.

I'm adding Teleflex Volt, Fuel, and Water Pressure gauges. I daisy chained from the Purple post to all the "+" posts on the gauges, then daisy chained from the black post to all the ground posts on the gauges.

The problem is none of the lights work on the gauges- the gauges themselves work and the Tach light works. What have I done wrong?

I do not have a switch, nor intend to use one, for the gauge lights, I prefer the lights stay on continuously while powered up.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: Getting gauges to work

If you want them to light all the time, daisy chain them with the purple ign. wires........If not, daisy chain them to your nav. light switch. They need a ground also.

Does your gauge have a light? Is there a + and - for the lights?

Re: Getting gauges to work

There should be 4 or so poles on the back of the gauges, depending on what gauge it is exactly (ground, ignition, sender, and the light). MY gauges are marked with an "L" for the light, i think (its right next to the light, so its pretty obvious)... and they are daisy chained together coming from my tach for the power. like he said, if you want them on while the boat is running run them from your ignition wire.
