Re: Getting more power out of a 55hp Evinrude?

Hesitation when you slam the throttle to WFO is usually caused by junk in a carb. When was the last time you pulled them and gave them a good cleaning? I'm not talking about just spraying carb cleaner in them while you are running. I mean a good soak, blow them out with air, and put a kit in them. Doesn't take very long at all. Another possible cause is a sticking timer base that doesn't let the timing advance with the throttle. That is a pretty good engine and should perform well but don't know what size boat it is on and what your normal load is. If your engine is running good and you need more power buy a bigger engine or put this engine on a smaller boat. There really isn't much you can do to turn a 55 into a 65 or 70hp. If there is then it can't be cost effective to do it.
