Getting my '62 outboard ready for the spring

So I am totally new to working on boat motors. I have a 1962 9.5 hp johnson outboard that I got last year. What do I need to do to get it ready for this spring? The only thing I really know is changing the oil. Is there only a lower oil unit? And what kind of oil should I put in there? I was an idiot at the end of last year and didn't do anything for storing it over the winter. I did store it in my basement, so it was sitting in 65 to 70 degrees all winter. Thanks for any help!

yes only oil is in the foot, use Marine gear oil, available at wal mart, you will need the pump as you pump the oil into the lower hole until it comes out of the upper hole. If you did not drain the fuel or use an additive like stabil or sea foam, you will probably need to clean out your carb, you can soak it in lacquer thinner. a new plug would also be nice.

I have a separate gas tank, the motor does not hold any gas in it. However, at the end of the year I did not run the motor until any gas that may be sitting in the lines in the motor ran out.

the carb will be full of gas and needs to be run out or emptied. yours probably will needs cleaning, but maybe not.
