Transom serial number OL287387. Drive seal number OL406238, Engine number 0L097202. Boat = Bayliner 2052LS Capri 1999.

Final piece of the puzzle (for those who have seen my other treads and hassles!). I would like some info on how to get my instrument panel working. For fuel economy, I know that 2500rpm when properly trimmed is my optimum cruising for a decent fuel economy. Trouble is, some of my dials don't work. The rev counter, speedometer and trim dials don't move. Is there a diagram anywhere for the wiring whereas I can maybe follow them to the engine and find if anything is loose or corroded? Thanks. Mike.

So the speedo and rpm wires go to the engine....can't find them!! Also, the trim dial reads permanently "up", is this because the drive sensors are knackered? Doesn't matter where I move the trim, the dial won't move. :(

The speedometer has no electrical connection to the engine. It is driven by water pressure compressing air in the tube at the back of the speedometer. Follow the tube to the lower unit on the engine, or to a separate pitot on the transom. The Trim sender is probably bad. Look at the engine where it hinges when trimmed up and down. You will see the sender with some wires exiting it. Lower the engine and operate the lever on the sender to see if the gauge moves.

ANY gauge that does not work should be checked for the presence of +12 volts on the "I" terminal with the key in the RUN position. The ground terminal on the gauge must be attached to a good ground. Next, use small piece of wire to short the "S" (send) terminal to ground. The gauge should peg full. If not, you have a bad gauge or +12 volts or ground is missing. If the gauge is good, the problem lies in the wire between the sender and the gauge, or the sender itself is bad or it has a bad ground.
