Is there a way around taking the motor off the support assembly so that I can get to the trim& tilt electric motor screws for replacement with a new motor???? At this point I do not see how to get a phillips head screw driver on all the screws without taking the main engine off the support system at the pivot. Need help if there is a way as I cannot lift the engine and do not have the equiptment to do so.

Re: Getting to trim motor screws for removal, Yamaha 2000 C60TLRY

UPS just dropped off a new trim motor for me this afternoon. Will be tackling the job tomorrow. I have an 05 F115, am thinking your lower unit would be the same as mine. Mine trims up but is semi inop going down. Looks like I have plenty of room to remove the 4 phillips head screws securing the motor with the motor trimmed up. Will naturally have to use an extension on the back screws. Check back tomorrow afternoon, will let you know how I made out.
BTW, new YAMAHA trim motor is over $550, Bought one made by SIERRA for $180 including shipping. If yours is 2 wire, 4 bolt mount, P/N is 18-6783. Am happy with the SIERRA parts so far on my MERC. expect the same for my YAMAHA. regards FRED

I made a mistake on the size of your motor, thought it was a 200 hp. Forget what I said, hopefully someone else can help. A year or so ago, did replace the motor on my 50 merc, was not a problem with the motor trimmed up. FRED

Re: Getting to trim motor screws for removal, Yamaha 2000 C60TLRY

UPDATE, went to replace the motor today. Looked simple but got involved and I had to get the boat on land. I got VERY lucky and only snapped 3 of the 4 mount bolts. ( mine had hex lands for a socket as well as the phillips slots). Could not get on one of the back bolts but was a simple matter of disconnecting the end of the ram so the unit would rotate down enough to get a socket on it. They are all plastic bushings so corrosion is not a problem.
Had to remove the whole unit, not difficult, so I can remove the 3 broken bolts. Discovered why one bolt came out easy. That bolt hole terminates in the pump housing while the 3 that broke go straight thru the pump housing and are supposed to be sealed by paint I guess on the bottom. Did not work. Am debating if I should risk breaking off an easy out in the bolt shanks or just drill out the shanks and use longer bolts with nuts.
Hope your unit is a down sized to mine and put together the same. If no one else can help you, try YAMAHAOUTBOARDPARTS.COM , that is where RODBOLT hangs out, tell him FRED sent you. regards FRED
