Re: Getting your boat inspected, USCG AUX or Marine Power Squadron

Thanks TD! "Courtesy inspections" are a great way to make sure your boat has all the required equipment onboard- and it's FREE!!
The inspectors are volunteering their time to help make it safe on the water. For those who don't know, they cannot write tickets if a problem is discovered.
It really is a great service that all boaters should use.
Oh, and the sticker has been proven to help minimize "by-pass 'safety' boardings"! :D

Great one TD, i get mine done every year, Boaters World near me, does it at their locations, and the State trooper marine locations do it also.

They slap a sticker on the boat.

I was inspected by coast guard one day up North here on Erie at the boat ramps, the guy was nice & courteous. He commented though at the time it wasn't a requirement ( or maybe it was?) but he liked how both my batterys were in boxes. The coast guard inspection sticker is a great display it gives the inland patrol boats something to look at and leave me be.
Looks like I have about 20 places to get inspected with in 15mi.

Used your link to e-mail my closest inspector...28 miles away.

Thanks for the 'heads up'!

There must be a reason there are no USCG folks here in the mountains. I would have to take the boat at least a 3-hour drive away. Does anyone know if Natural Resources or Wildlife Resources folks have an inspection program?

SouthernAppal, most of them do, and will inspect for free, as they can also give you a ticket on the water. check with the local office.

I know that this might be slightly off topic, but still relevant. Some years back I did some coast guard training and certification. I would like to do a refreshers training. Is this available and how to make contact??

Thanks, TD.

I've been wanting to do that for a while. You have made it really easy. I will be setting up an inspection this weekend.

Thanks TD

We had ours inspected through the boat club we joined at the marina last year. Felt pretty good to get that sticker and know we had all of our gear up to date.

These guys will come out to events and inspect if you call and book their time. We had about twenty vessels at a boat club cookout and they stayed around until all of them were done. Great service - great group of guys.

We were never bothered last year on the dock or water. :) I'm sure we'll have them come aboard again to get an updated sticker. Since we are located near the CG station and port on Erie - it's always a good idea to keep up to date. The docks can get pretty backed up on inspection days.
