Gimbal bearing depth

I've driven my new gimbal bearing into the housing til it stopped. There seems to about 3/4 of an inch gap between the back of the bearing and the seal. Is this correct? I'm trying to determine if I have the bearing all the way into the housing.

Thanks in advance.

No, that is too much space. Pull the bearing back out, then just look at the area the bearing gets pressed into. You will see where the bearing stops.
Chances are, the bearing is just crooked in the housing, and it will not move. It must go in straight or it will dig in and cut grooves.

Did the sound of the hammer and driver change when the bearing bottomed out?

There should be a 'tab' of some sort which ID's the side that faces inward . . . If the bearing does not seem to go all the way in, chances are that you have it facing in backward.

They will fit in either direction.
