Hallo,

I will be replacing my gimbal seal, bearing as well as I need to align the bearing with the engine coupler on my Volvo Penta DP from 1999. Details of my drive is DP-SM 1 95 and transom says TSK SX-M. I have seen that a tool for all 3 jobs are available for Mercruiser but cannot find it for the Volvo Penta. I have found one guy selling a tool on Ebay - please see the following link:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ALIG...5177123QQptZBoatQ5fPartsQ5fAccessoriesQ5fGear

- but after consulting the seller he is not sure if it will work on my Penta... Anyone out there who can tell me if the tool this guy is offeing may fit my drive also or maybe can tell me the part number of the Volvo tool I will have to order ?

Thanks in advance.

If it works on a Merc or OMC, it will work on the SX (and your DP-SM which is the same as SX) gimbal bearing. While it sounds good in theory, I'm not sure I want to hammer a gimbal bearing in with the same tool I use to check my alignment. I have no idea how that tool works or even if it does work.
From what I see, you end up the the alignment bar inside the coupler while you are trying to drive it into place in the gimbal housing. That is NOT a good idea and could damgage the coupler, the alignment bar, the bearing and the gimbal housing.
Get an alignment bar, and a seperate tool for installing the gimbal bearing. All in one is not a good idea in my opinion.
