What is the correct way to install the seal? Seems like some sort of adhesive is needed to prevent it from falling off as you are driving the bearing into place.

The grease seal is installed before the gimbal bearing. Download Alpha 1 service manual #6 section 4A (from "adults only").

Maybe you didn't understand the question. I know exactly where it is installed. I have a manual also. Does it need anything to hold it in place while I am driving the bearing in is the question.

It's an interference fit, held in by friction. If yours is loose, something is wrong.

I just installed mine with a piece of 2" plastic pipe (2-3/8"o/d) which just fits nicely inside the lip. Hammering the gimbal bearing in afterwards had no effect on it.
