Why does the manual say to install the gimbal bearing with the bellhousing on? Wouldn't it be easier to do it with the housing removed? I thought as long as it is going in straight your all good. Someone please enlighten me on the thought behind the manual. Has anyone done them with the housing off?

Well first things first...if you already have the bell housing off - by all means don't install it and the bellows first! It's certainly easier (to see, move your hands/tools, etc...) without the bell housing on.

If it's not off already, then I think it would just depend on whether you're pretty comfortable with doing the job or not. For me, I did it for the first time a couple weeks ago, so I wanted to see what was going on a little more closely.

It also depends on what else you're willing/planning to replace too. If you take off the bell housing, you may end up needing to replace your bellows back there too unless they come off nice and easily and clean up well. On the other hand, if they haven't been replaced recently and you're up to the job...could be an good opportunity to do it.
