I cannot read the serial numbers to the Gimbal Housing.

I know I have a Alpha One Gen II or which is now the SEI SE116 outdrive.

The gimbal bearing is rough and needs replacement. Are all the bearing the same in between years? Does anyone know a part number for it?

Re: Gimbal Bearing numbers

Went to pick up the bearing and ..uhoh.

It appears there is a cutoff in bearings between 1997-1998.

Does anyone know the difference between the bearings? Is there another way I can tell which year the housing is without a serial number?

They didn't have both bearings in stock so I couldn't tell if there is any difference between the two.

The part numbers in the book were #18-21006 for 1998 - 2010, and #18-21001 for 1997 and older.

Again, all I know is it is Alpha one Generation II outdrive. The housing serial numbers for the gimbal are unreadable. The motor was new in 2009 to the current outdrive. Boat is a 1978 but was repowered at some point with the Alpha 2.

I'm not 100% sure here, however I believe that Mercury switched to a heavy duty bearing around that time; perhaps the same one that the Bravo uses??? Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Regardless, I believe that either bearing, the standard or heavy duty, will work in the Gen II.

Re: Gimbal Bearing numbers

Got some more info to maybe help

Serial number after twisting and lighting and scribing: 0F089866

Possible wrong digits with first and 6th digit. Is this enough to determine year?
