gimbal bearing seal

in the service manual it talks about the gimbal bearing seal when changing the gimbal bearing but all the sites that sell the bearings there is no mention of the seal does everybody just the leave the old seal in this is a 1999 larson 186 lxi 4.3 gl with a sx drive.going to try and change the u joints and gimbal bearing and bellows this weekend. thanks

you should replace it. that said, I did not the last time and Its working just fine.

It's not a big deal. It might leak grease into the bilge, but it shouldn't be much.

If it leaks water, then you have bigger problems to fix than the gimbal seal.

It's only job it to keep big chunks out of the bearing. It won't keep grease, water, or oil in our out.
If the rubber part of the seal is missing, replace it. If it's still there and in one piece, no need to replace it.
