How much grease does the Gimbal bearing take? I have a 1999 crownline 5 liter alpha 1 and have put grease in it but it keeps on "taking" the grease. I have done at least ten strokes on the lever for the grease gun and the fitting keeps on taking it. I bought the boat used last Summer and do not know the history. Does the bearing take / use a lot of grease from year to year? This is the first time I have grease it.

thanks for replies

Re: Gimbal Bearing

I give mine about 10 or 15 Pumps each time I service the boat,.........Which is a couple times a year....

Any grease that is Purged from the Bearing is forced into the Bellows,........
It'll be laying there waiting for a clean-up when you Pull the Drive for service.........

I'd Think that you Could pump in a Few Tubes of Grease before Any of it came Out of the Bellows,+ Into the Boat.........

The best way is to pull the drive, start greasing, turn the bearing by hand a few turns and watch for the grease to come out.
