Hey everyone.
1985 Mercruiser Alpha One, Generation one. My current Y-pipe is the one that has the staggered top bolts, and it matches my Gimbal housing.
I need to change my entire transom assembly. I also own a Y-pipe that is newer and does not have the staggered bolt pattern on the top of it. I'm going to get the transom assembly used.
I figure that I can go with whichever bolt pattern because I own both Y-pipes. But, here is my question... I want to make sure my outdrive mounts to the bell housing properly (ok, I get the names of the different housings confused so, if I mixed up gimbal and bell, I apologize).
Anyway, did the non-staggard bolt pattern only come out on the Gen II transom assembly? Or did it come out for the Gen one also? I'd like to switch to the non-staggard y-pipe if possible, but it isn't mandatory. I just don't want to get the wrong transom assembly.
And, yes, I do know that there was not technically a "generation one", just the gen II, but I wanted to clarify as much as possible.
thank you everyone!
