I have about 1/2 to 3/4 play in the gimbal ring pre alpha.

But Luckily A while back I picked up a complete gimbal housing Alpha came of a v6 I have V8, It seems to mount up fine... The steering is nice and tight on the alpha ! should I go forward with using this other housing or try and repair my pre alpha, The bummer part is I just did shift cable on the pre alpha and bellows are good, allthogh the alpha assembly has un torn bellows and decent shift cable should I just mount it up and go? is their anything I need to look out for in the swap? I.m really pondering here on what to do next?

What model is the 'pre-alpha'? (MC-1, R, MR, etc). If it's MC-1 the Alpha One is not completely bolt-on compatible.

Since both are used I would lean toward fixing the original or disassemble the other for new boots and check the pin and ring on it also. It can feel tight right now, but after using it on the boat, it may be rust or corrosion which makes it feel tight. Easier to do a full inspect and rebuild now then find out later something was missed

Disassemble them, clean, inspect. Use the new rubber and shift cable on whichever you end up installing.
