What drive do you have? The OEM service manual has it, if you order the OEM kit, it comes with a template, or at least it used too.

They have a template for an Alpha about halfway down this page:

http://www.mercstuff.com/gimbalringinst.htm

Make sure you measure and verify the dimensions on it when you print it out, you may have to adjust the scale on your printer to more or less than 100% to get it to print correctly.

If you save the drilled out aluminum plugs you can use a thin aluminum backing (I used aluminum flashing) and epoxy them back in rather than using the plugs. I used a screw for a handle and JB quick to hold the backing in place then JB Weld to epoxy in the plugs. Some tape and wax paper will hold the epoxy in place as it sets. Sanded and painted, even left a dimple to show where to drill next time. Has held up well for two+ years. Here are some photos of what I used. http://forums.iboats.com/album.php?albumid=278 Good luck

You have a LOT more trust in epoxy than I do!!! :D

Re: Gimballring removal template

I found the template... but wonder if it would be possible opening the sqare section where the sticker Mercruiser power trim is sticked on to. A bravo is done that way.
Then a coverplate with some screws and gasket would cover it all up or am i missing something?
Thanks!
ps. I do like epoxy though, rebuilt my entire boat with it and glued the leg nosecone with it. Clean surface/prep and etching primer is the way on alloy.

jR marine sells a kit to do that, even includes the correct wrenches to do the job. Give Ron a call, and he can answer your question http://www.jrmarine.com/Default.htm Good luck
