I am working on a 26? Wellcraft. I wanted to ask if anyone knows what torque is required when installing my transom plate. I have rebuilt the transom assembly and made some minor repairs to the fiberglass surrounding the transom opening. Now I am ready to re install the gamble housing and transom plate and could not find any info on how much torque is required to prevent any leaking. I have new gaskets as well. Oh should I use caulk in addition to the merc transom seal? I was thinking it would hurt to run a bead of caulk ? between the factory gasket and the transom opening on my boat. Any help would be appreciated

Jeff

Re: Gimble assy. rebuild and transom repair

hi jeff.....welcome to i boats......

that question is more for the mechs on the i/o forum....as the touque specs are their territory......as far as the sealant.....its not nessary, but i have seen it used.....sikkaflex or a 3m 4200.

as long as the transom is flat.....i think there is as much as 1/8th tollreance between any two points from the inner wall and the outer wall....the gaskets will take this up...

if bond-o peeks down here he can answer......

btw....if you pm a mech on the forum...just post the link to the thread in the pm......that way they can answer in open forum.

cheers
