hi every one i just came on board this forum there are a lot of very smart boating people on this site so i have a 1986 bayliner trophy 2160 that i fell in love with and bought it had a 4 cyl that was tired we boat at 6500 feet so a 4cyl will not do so i pulled it out and put in a volvo aq 200 that i had in my shop and i put a volvo 280 out drive on as well however i hav e since put the 275 out drive back on because the boat just would have a hard time getting up on plane so every one talked about alignment tools for the sx drives no one has sead anything about 275/280 out drives i replaced my gimble bearings dropped in my v8 it look all lined up great my out drive has a split shaft system not a through shaft like the sx drive so is there a alignment tool i should know about before i explode my new gimble bearings and who here has run a 275 with 2:15 gears with a v8 and how is it working

You don't have an SX drive, gimbal bearing, nor do you have a coupler to align a gimbal bearing to. Here is some alignment info for your type setup http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=303248&p=2039219&viewfull=1#post2039219

The 1.89 gear ratio is what a V8 normally changes to for high altitude (1.61 at sea level to 5000 ft). I would bet with a 2.15 ratio, you might have a problem with getting on plane and having the proper WOT rpm at the same time just because of the huge difference. Might try posting in the Prop forum and see if anyone has help with prop pitch with a V8 and the 2.15 ratio.

Ok, yeah, I have used a small chisel that is tapered, and marked it with a felt tip pin. This isn't a super high precision measurement.
