Ginnel light idea...

I was looking at a few threads about adding the rope and LED lighting to the gunnels. I have a fishing boat and am thinking that I may be able to add the RED LEDs from a side light/trailer kit and call it a day.

Run the wire to the switch/battery and then mount one on each side. Done.

Good -- or bad idea?

I also have the light kit from the trailer guides (never mounted them - don;t need em there) and can put the amber lights in there - cost = zero. But would that effect night vision?

I used blue led strips (matched the boat color) and wired them into my anchor light circuit. Just don't use a color that attracts bugs.

Nope, amber does not interfere with your night vision

Unless she's sitting on your lap at the helm!

Should I make sure she's out of the way before I clobber my husband with a frying pan??? ;)

Thanks for the info --- and the chuckle. Installing the lights tonight.

Check out Acolyte Indutries. I installed 6 of their LED lighstrips in my gunnels then hooked them into my anchor light toggle on the helm. Also put three under the swim platform. Look very stealth at night (bright too). Draw very little voltage.
