Re: GIT ROT

Yes, I tried it on several rotten spots. It is too thick to penetrate totally rotten wood as advertised. It may look like it works but like the saying goes... beauty is only skin deep. Do a sample with the stuff and then cut the sample up if you need proof.

Re: GIT ROT

Products like Git Rot are just Epoxy thinned with solvents.
A better way to go is to using unthinned (full strength) epoxy and heat up the rotted area with a heat gun and then gently heat the resin. Not too hot. Not over 120 degrees. Pour it in small batches into the rotted area. a little more heat on the beam and it will suck right in. Be carful though, curing epoxy can get very hot. Don't use too much at one time, do it in stages. I even packed the beam i did in ice afterwards and kept a fire extinguisher on hand (snap crackle pop).
It filled it reeeeal good. One thing to consider though is, as I learned, Epoxy is very expensive,
and a piece of wood is cheap. Now, replacing the rotted wood would be my first choice. Filling in rot is like pouring monney down a rat hole. The only way I would do it now is if it would save me from doing something drastic like taking the whole top off of my boat to get at a small piece of wood.
H90
