WSVN-TV - 2 workers dead after machinery mishap

and right after, we were having a mechanic drive ours w/ us(union rule), hydraulics shaky at heights, so he shut it down for keeps - 23 yrs old POS 85 footer, supposed to finally get new one in a few weeks. If the mechanics wont use it, neither will we!

So sad. Hate to hear of someone going to work and never making it home.

We had a fatality a few years back involving a boom lift. The operator was thrown when one of the wheels fell off the trailer while loading. Myth busters got that one wrong, a freak accident.

I'm on scissor lifts or boom lifts weekly. You have to be consious of EVERY move you make. So sad to hear when accidents happen.

who's doing the daily inspections prior to workers using the machine. OSHA Requires a Daily inspection by a Competemt Person. Theirs a good reason why the lift needs to be inspected. Sorry to hear about these workers...

I am around these lifts all day too. Being a "safety guy" I am the one that makes sure the inspections are done. In the last week we had two lift accidents. One had bad hydraulics and was being moved by a forklift when it fell off the forks. Quite a bit of damage to the lift.

The second and most spooky was when the same type of lift was being loaded on to a flat bed and fell off. This one was being winched on but could just as easily have been driven on.

I'll have to see if I can find the pictures, my father was the ground safety guy a few years ago while his partner was installing a antenna on the side of the building. He went to move the lift when a abondended sewer under one of the tires collapsed. The only thing preventing the lift from flipping over was the basket against the side of the building.
