Glass the deck or not?

I was under the assumption that even though they were sealing their plywood they were also glassing the deck. I had planned on laying 10oz cloth on the deck as well as glassing about 6" up the sides. Is glassing the deck overkill? I'm using epoxy btw.

Glass the top for abrasion and moisture resistance. Coat the bottom with epoxy and you're all set.

Xynole or Dynel cloths will leave a non-skid pattern after wet-out if that's what you are looking for.

Enjoy

yes you can use polyester resin for economic reasons. it's a bit smelly but will work fine. i use epoxy on mine and spent a fortune just for the floor.

Yes I did. Worked just fine. Do it in a well ventilated area. The fumes will mess you up big time. I painted every last piece of wood with it. The Epoxy resin doesn't smell as bad, but much much more expensive. Make SURE you light sand it before you paint it with NON slip paint. if you don't, the paint will not adhire so well to it and will come off very easy. If you don't paint it with non skid, well lets say you'll be water ski'n on the inside of the boat.

If you use polyester then you need to use glass with it, don't just put a coat of polyester resin on it.

I used Bondo Brand Fiberglass resin without the cloth. That is polyester. I used it on my 3/4'' plywood floor and did not need extra strength. You should use cloth if you need extra strength. Epoxy is 2000psi vs Poly less then 500psi. Poly gets cracks in it from weak points. But if your using it for a inexpensive waterproof and will paint I think it should work just fine.
