Glass then foam or foam then glass?

I've removed all bad wood, foam etc and I'm getting ready to replace the decking that was rotten. I'll coat all pieces with resin then set them in place for the foam application.

Should I glass in the deck first and then fill the foam through holes, then glass the holes. Or should I just set the boards in place, fill with foam and then glass them in after the foam application. Which way and why? Thanks!

If you foam first you will be able to see that every thing is full. The down side is you will most likely have to level the top surface after it is hard. It is not hard to do but very messy. If you glass first there is no way of knowing you have a nice even fill and if you try to over fill to make sure it can distort any weak spots.

Got it...your point about leveling did it for me. I remember this shaving tool the workers used to install Dry-vit stucco siding, they place styrofoam on first and then shave it into the shape they want...I'm going to find one of these tools to smooth the foam, unless you recommend another method. Then I'll glass it all together.

The foam sands so easy you don't really need a special tool, just put some very coarse sand paper on a length of 2x4. Use a small hand saw to cut off the over filled high spots.
