Glass tint in Pa. Question...

Just asking, because I've had problems with my truck in the past having aftermarket window tint on the glass. Does anyone know if there are any laws or restrictions on window tint on a boat in Pa.? I just got done installing one layer of 5%, really dark, & I'm planning on a second layer (to try & hide some of my mistakes), so it's going to be "SUPER DARK". It really looks cool, I'll post up a picture when I get a chance. Before some of you start on me about the viability issue at night, I don't go out on the water after dusk & if I did I always sit on top of the seat back anyway. I'm one of those people that if I'm seated while driving the boat the frame of the wind screen obstructs my view. I'm just wondering if there are ant legal ramifications of tinting the glass on a boat in Pa. Thanks for any help. MAXX

No legal issues with it but it could (will) be a problem at night. What would the issues be if there was an accident. You know how sue happy everyone is these days.

IMO, 5% on a boat is ALREADY really dark and adding more will make it a safety hazzard, despite your dislaimer of sitting on top of the seat. Also, I don't know that because it "looks cool" is the right reason for tint, but who cares what I think......

If you really want tint on a boat I'd contact these guys and they will probably be able to answer your question.

Re: Glass tint in Pa. Question...

Thanks for the opinions, Ya, I know how bad it might be at night. I'm heading up to the lake right now & I think I'll hang until atleast sunset. I want to see "real world" what it's going to be like. I only have the 5% on right now & have yet to finish with the 2nd layer. I know I say I don't boat at night, but can't always plan on things going right to the plan. It's just a small 17' bowrider & I can flip the center glass open if need be. You guy's are right though, Thanks again for the comments, MAXX
P.S.- I'll post up a pic before it gets dark & also report on how I make out as far as the twilight cruze go's. Tanx again, M

There are no laws about tinting per say, BUT the water police CAN stop you and issue a citation for poor visibility. They can also kick you off the water until you have a windshield you can see through. Sitting on the seat back (or standing in a boat less than 20 feet long) is illegal while underway at more than no wake speed and they can stop you for that.

Lots of windshields on small boats are useless to look through, you should be fine.

Lol, you "only" have 5% tint, which is basically limo tint! I'd never go that dark on my boat, but it's your call. I'd say 20% on any boat is enough. It can still be tough to see through that at night.

joe & boat.jpg I like the way tint looks too. This windshield is so low my head is way above it. Another boat I had with a tall windshield I would stand to see over the windshield at night and it was clear.
