glassing in the floor, first time....

hello, i have a 1984 center console 16 footer that has glass tape only on the seams of the floor( around the edges)<br /><br />i have since removed the console( it unscrews) and plan to cover the entire floor woth cloth and resin.... tell me if the plan sounds "OK"...<br /><br />20 yards of 18 oz roving cloth , e type and a gallon of boat yard polyester resin.<br /><br />will sand down the white floor paint till i get paint gone, the lay a layer of resin, lay down the cloth, saturate with more resin, squeege out excess and wait to cure. sand top of new glass slightly and apply my new non slip paint from interlux.<br /><br />boat was super cheap and works well, but i want this to serve 2 purposes...<br /><br />#1. allow floor to last longer, handle impacts better, and not get waterlogged fom topside.<br /><br />#2. learning experience, as boat is old and cheap and will learn for next time when i really need these skills<br /><br />m ikey

If everything is dry, and all the paint is removed, I cannot see why that wouldn't work. Most of the time the rot comes from under the floor, which comes from poorly sealed thru-hull fittings, hardware on the floor and upper deck, sitting uncovered in the rain and water beeing allowed to pool in the bilge, etc. As far as I am concerned, if it is sealed, it should be fine.
