Hello all, new to the iboat world. I have a 1983 glassport which I decided to replace the deck due to soft spots. Only to find severe cancer when lifting the carpet. The gas tank enclosure is wet and the wood is rotten all the way through. My question is where do I start next. How do I take the rest of the deck off as not to put a hole in the side of the boat. Also has anyone done a restore on this type of Boat before and any pictures would help. I am not familure with this manufacture. Is it worth the time and effort being that it is not a Wellcraft, Glastron etc:? Thank you for any help offered

Re: Glassport restoration

Your probably not going to want to hear this.......

Rotten deck wood is usually the tip of the iceberg. I looked at your other threads and you have a boat with a 470 motor....... A restoration or even repair on that combo will be serious money and unless you are really in love with the boat........ I would consider parting ways with it.

Restoration work should actually be done right or not at all. The 470 is a motor that has been discontinued and many people hate.

Now consider this...... there are a ton of "project" boats out there that have better I/O motor combos..... your time and investment would almost be the same price.

IMO I would go shopping ......... your boat is not a collection piece..... go ahead and read through the restoration section and see what people have encountered for problems.....

Older bayliners are common on the market but, they normally had a better I/O powerplant.....
