I am inexperienced with boats and I am looking at buying the above mentioned one. It is a 1988 21' fiberglass boat with a 400hp 454ci I/O. I haven't been able to find any information on this boat anywhere. The dealer is asking $8000.00. does this seem like a reasonable price? It was reupholstered two years ago and the interior looks very nice. I currently own a Sunbird 20' cuddy cabin 4.3L I/O and I just can't decide what would be better because I don't ever use the cabin anyway. The Glasstream has a crawl space under the bow. Can anyone help me?

I'm guessing the fuel consumption is going to be a lot more with the 454. I had a 29'er with the 454 Bravo. Fuel tank on that boat was like a one-bedroom apartment!!!!!

Are you Sure it's a Bravo,..??..??....

Merc was putting Alphas behind the Big Blocks back then........

Seems to Me,..... Bravos were Intro'd After 1988.........

All I know is that it says Bravo in silver letters right on the back of the lower unit underneath the Merc logo. Is that something I can trust? The salesman said that anything over 300hp had to have a Bravo and the boat was 330hp from the factory.

Look up the value on Nadaguides.com and get a good water test. I do believe Glasstream is gone and was short lived.

Personally I would stay with the V-6 with gas looming at $3 a gallon.

Re: Glasstream Free Spirit

I found a 1987 21' Glasstream Free Spirit at NADA and if you click on engine options and put the 400hp one, it gives an average retail value of about $6850.00 considering that it has a new stereo in it. There is no listing for 1988 and there is no free spirit in the 1986 listing.

Also look at the HIN (Hull identification # on the transom of the boat) and the last 2 digits will be the year manufactured.

I can't see that boat being in such high demand to ask that much over retail.......... isn't the good old V-6 looking better!

Re: Glasstream Free Spirit

I suppose I could just get my boat properly serviced so that the idle is better and have a tune up, then I could get my boat restriped and the carpet professionally cleaned and it would probably be more satisfying to use. I'll have to think about it. Thanks a lot for all the comments.

Re: Glasstream Free Spirit

Well, here is the proposed deal. The salesman said 4000.00 with the trade in of my 20' Sunbird Cuddy. I guess that wouldn't be so bad since I only paid 2800.00 for it two years ago. The new boat is listed on their website at Willeysmarine.com it is the '88 21' free spirit. There are about five pics of it there that I couldn't post on here because of the file size. If you have time, take a look and let me know if you think it is a fair deal. Thanks all! Alex
