Hello is the glastron to small for wakeboarding with an 85hp engine? Would it be possible to put a small tower on it?

The only way to know if you can wakeboard or not with 85hp is to try it out, you might need to switch to a lower pitch propeller if you have trouble getting out of the hole.

As for the tower it would probably have to be custom made, you should make sure that you have sufficient room to get at the mounting bolts and that the fiberglass is thick enough to support a tower.

It would help if you posted a picture of the boat.

I have a Glastron V156 with a 90. The GT has pretty much the same hull with a different deck. That's mine in the avatar
The Gt 150 will perform quite nicely with an 85 hp engine--for a while and for wakeboarding. You will in all probability need to buy a prop with 2 inches less pitch for boarding or skiing. If you have power trim, tuck the engine all the way in to pull out the boarder, then trim out. If no power trim, move the tilt pin 1 hole closer to the transom. With 85 It will be just slightly underpowered for slalom skiing and a good skier will be able to pull the stern out on hard cuts. He/she will actually be able to out-accelerate the boat and get ahead of it on these cuts. Wakeboarding speeds are slower though and loads on the boat are less. That combined with the area of the wakeboard makes getting up on the wakeboard and maneuvering OK. As you get more experienced though the boat will become marginal for you.
The real problem you will find is that there just isn't that much room inside the boat for 3 people, vests, wakeboard, rope, etc. It gets real small real fast.
As for a tower, anything is do-able if you want to badly enough, but on a boat that small, I don't think a tower is made that small--you would need to make your own--and I think it would be overkill.

We wakeboarded behind my V156 with a 60hp motor. You probably need a 15" pitch prop. My Cousin has a GX150 with a 90hp, he uses a 15" pitch prop, it works pretty good.

The GT 150 is an awesome boat for it's design. Just ask James Bond. It'll do about anything you want it to with an 85 with the correct prop for the application.

Yep, Dhadley, the GT150 is real nice but the 16 footer is nicer. I also had the 14 foot tri hull that went into the swimming pool. I think they called that hull the "Aqua Lift II" It came with grab bars at the rear gunwales and a vinyl stripe down the center of the hood. I had it tricked out with custom full canvas and rolled and tucked upholstery--even on the deck stripe. Awsom little boat Had it in the air a few times too. Sorry I sold it.

Hey! Do you remember in the early '70s when you could get a white (sand) GT150 with twin orange racing stripes -- and the Camaro could also be bought with the same colored stripes with just about the same width and spacing on each vehicle? Serendipity? Or was GM in collusion with Glastron/Carlson?

Yep, I remember that. We were Glastron dealers at the time. The GT160 was a better ski boat but the GT150 was faster. It'd be interesting to see what one would do with todays motors and props. I straightened the bottom on my GT150, what a difference!

I took the hook out. Just made sure everything was straight. A ton of work but what a difference!
