Hey guys, need some help from fellow members. I am replacing the seats in my new ( used ) Glastron ssv 175. Below you will see a few pictures that will try to direct you in the best direction in what I am trying to say. I want to replace the seats as mentioned, above each picture will be a reasoning. I have been looking through the boating store and my exact problem is I do not know exactly what to buy. I dont want find what I want and then buy the wrong seat/material.

Right now the guy I bought my boat from has all white folding fishing seat that sits low to the ground for the driver, and the passenger seat is a back-to-back lounge seat that is just sitting in the boat, not actually in the boat.

Below is a picture with black circles depicting where I want 3 fishing seats instead of the one folding seat and a back to back seat.

Below is a picture of the two rear seats. They pop in and out and are located next to the motor, the right one that is circled is broken/bended from to much weight? And needs to be replaced.

Last picture is the final outcome of the 3 fishing seats along the lines that I want/ want to look like.

Those are the seats I want, but they dont have to be "exactly". They can be similar. I was looking through the iboats parts page, and I am confuaed as to what exactly I need to buy..I am literally brand new to boating.

Re: Glastron Seat Rebuild

If you are looking for seat pedestal height advice, Use what you have & give us a reference.....Measure from the deck of the boat up to the top of the flange that the seat attaches to:

My guess is the existing seat post is similar to this, rather then the much nicer, better, and equally more expensive pedestals WOG posted.

If the drivers helm seat is too short, it was probably the only size available wherever or whenever the previous owner (PO) bought them. Same for the seat.

Now that you know the helm seat is too low, use whatever you can to mimic a taller seat. Un-do the screws holding the pedestal to the deck & use 2 2X8s to raise the pedestal 3". Is that enough? Be aware that the pedestal base is small & unscrewed it will be fairly tippy.

If you can actually try & get your hands on a helm seat, it may have a more or less thick seat cushion. Based on your pix, I'd guess most will have more, some will have more then twice as much.

the current seat pedestal is 9", and is 3" too low
the current seat is 3.5" from the surface that mates to the flat flange I circled in red above to the top edge of the seat cushion
the seat you want is 4.5" mating surface to top of cushion
to get new pedestal height:
9+3+3.5=15.5" is how tall you want new setup to be
15.5-4.5=11", so you'll want an 11" pedestal

Now we check for the pedestals, and find that it's either too tall or too short, 10" or 12". Not all seat pedestals can be trimmed, some can, some can't.
For those pedestals that can't be cut: grind the area under the 'new' seat pedestal's foot and fiberglass a piece of 3/4 ply (that's also been glassed) to the deck (T'nuts can be installed on the backside prior to being installed. Look for Friscoboater on iBoats & youTUBE, he has a video of doing it this way. w/ PB under the plywood, the 3/4 plywood, plus the glass over the plywood, you easily gain the lost 1" from getting the shorter 10" pedestal.

For those pedestals that can be cut: remove upper or lower mounting plate, taking great care to not damage either end's pipe mounting surface, cut the pipe down 1" and reassemble pedestal. Again taking great care to replicate manufacturers assembly. Seats and pedestals are USCG rated for use and it would not be a good idea to compromise the pedestal's rating. Also note, cutting the pedestal tends to void your warranty. Again, FriscoBoater has video about how he did this. He had to trim pedestal posts BECAUSE he used the 3/4 plywood as described above. They might have already been too tall, but he did cut them & mount them as above.

The other way would be to look for a 3.5" seat mounting surface to cushion height, then your 12" pedestal is just right.

Most seats I've seen don't show alot of dimensions for how tall they are from mount to seat surface. Look for a seat that suits your needs & budget, if there are photos of the mounting surface, you can make some guess-ta-mates about how tall they are, or call the seller may know or be able to send a spec sheet.

Using these seats, and a best guess, that the existing seat is basically the same flush mounting surface. I'd guess the Veada seat is roughly 1" taller then the existing, just like in the example I listed above.

All that said, give the deck a good walk around & check to make sure that seat isn't loose because it pulled free from a soggy deck. That would be bad.

Hunt around & you 'll find some tips for giving the deck a good once over to check for wet, soggy, damaged decking.

Hope that it ^^ helps

Have a great Sunday & I too thank you for your service
