Glastron starting problem

I recently bought a 1969 Glastron Bayflite V-164. I took it out for the past few weekends, staying relatively close to the launch ramp leery of something going wrong. New boat, older boat and all, didn't wat to take a chance at being far away if it decided to break down on me. Anyway, it ran great for the past few weekends. Yesterday my wife and I decided to throw a small grill in the boat and some hamburgers and we ventured out to the sandbar for a day of festivities. We were the for a few few hours mingleing and making new friends. When we got ready to leave I turned the key and nothing. I had power to all my lights and accesories. I got out my tester and climbed under the dash and tested the ignition switch. It was getting power like it should. I was able to leave the key in the on position and jump the selonoid and it fired right up. The motor is a 120hp I/O Mercruiser, Serial# 4504857. What are some possible causes for this problem? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yes, when I put my tester on the starter side of the key switch and turned the key, the tester lit up. When I released the key, the light went out.

Re: Glastron starting problem

Then move on to the Exciter Wire on the Starter's Sloenoid,+ See if it's getting Power.......

If Not,.......Start looking between the 2 points.......

Yes the Solenoid has power coming in, but no power going out when you turn the key.

Re: Glastron starting problem

Can I replace this solenoid with a regular automotive solenoid? Or do I need to go to a marine store and buy one of theirs?
