Looking for gloves for fishing from the boat in cooler months. Need something that handles wet conditions but still gives good dexterity.
The *************** – short finger, Dura-Grip palm. Designed for sailing and paddle sports.
The *************** – fingerless, padded palm, abrasion resistant. Seems better for big game fishing.
Anyone used either? Which holds up better in saltwater and gives good grip?

I've always wanted to know, what is the actual function of fingerless gloves in any situation but especially for fishing?

If i don't wear gloves my fingertips get cold.

If I wear gloves that have no fingertips my fingertips get cold.

Most use fingerless gloves when sailing to prevent rope burns on the palm of the hands.

I don't know if they are available locally, but there are glove/ mittens on some markets that have the fingerless gloves, but added to that, flaps that can be flipped over the fingers and the gloves become full mittens. They are great for shooting in cold climates. Your hands stay warm , but when you need your finger on the trigger you just flip the mitten part back and your fingers are free.

If we're jigging, I like wool, half finger gloves.

If we're trolling, I like my "convertible" mittens. Quick access to my fingers if needed, yet keeps my hands warm for the duration.

I hate using gloves, but yes my hands get cold and with my arthritis they be come useless when cold. I have some oversize, easy on and off that are really warm gloves that I take on and off. Hands warm-up quickly when I slide them on, yet they slide off with a shake of my hands. I prefer having no gloves when cranking in my fish and getting them off the hook. Then slide them back on to get my hands warmed up quickly. The ones I have are old snowmobile gloves with a leather outside but insulated inside. Rather clumsy when they are on, but a quick shake and off they come. Used them ice fishing a number of years back and they worked well, just gotta remember to dry your hands before sliding them back on.
