I am refinishing an aluminum boat and gluv-it came highly recomended. Can I apply this with my pneumatic paint sprayer and is there anything i should know before applying? I have completely stripped the hull down to bare metal. Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

Re: Gluv-It

It will NOT go thru a sprayer. I brushed it along the seams and rivits. There is no need to put it on aluminum where there is no seam or rivit.

Be absolutely certain to stir the can (it settles) before you measure it out. It flows so if you put it on thick it will run like mad. If you can appy it to horizontal surfaces and make it so it flows into the seams.

Takes a good 24+ hours to dry.

Great info i appreciate it ! Now i live in south eastern NC and its cool in the mornings but warms up pretty good by 11am until about 6pm is this sufficient time for it to set up before night fall comes? I have no building or shelter to apply it under. Is there any speial paint for aluminum boats?

Re: Gluv-It

Paint all depends on the boat and your planned useage. Do a search here in this forum on painting aluminum and you will find a wealth of info. Pay particular attention to painting bare aluminum.

As to applying the gluvit yes your planned hours are fine and it should set up. If there is the chance of rain after you have done your job toss a tarp over it.

What size/type boat is this?

As with anything you are going to apply to Aluminum, wash it with 50/50 solution of vinegar and water first.

Gluv It is great stuff.

Re: Gluv-It

Thanks a bunch all of your input guys, this boat is a 1993 LOWE 16ft double wide. It was converted into a duck blind when I bought it for 75 bucks 6 years ago. I put a motor on it and pulled a shrimp net behind it for while and even ran a few gill nets out of it. It will be used mostly in salt water. Been out about 5 or 6 miles offshore many many times and a lot of flounder gigging in the ICW. So salt water and recreation fishing will be what I use it for now. Again I thank you all for your help.
