Gluvit question

I am trying to determine how much Kluvit to buy. So I have a couple questions about how to properly apply it. I assume it is applied to the inside of the boat. So do you just apply it over the rivets and seams or do you apply it as a whole interior covering paint?

The second question I have is do I apply the zinc chromate primer before or after the Gluvit treatment?

I am just fixing up a 1967 14' Polar Kraft aluminum v-hull. I need to stop the minor leaks and make it look a little better.

Re: Gluvit question

1. A quart goes a loooooong way. Just on the rivets and seams.

2. No need for th zinc chromate. Just make sure the area is free of oil and way. You can paint over it, if you want.

Re: Gluvit question

DJ, thanks for the response. That helps alot. I am just going to buy one quart then.

I should have been more clear on the zinc chromate question. I am stripping the paint on the exterior and interior of the boat and plan on re-painting both...after the application of the gluvit. So the rest of the interior and exterior will need to be covered with the zinc chromate, then possibly another topcoat primer, then the topcoat (considering using marine rustoleum).

Re: Gluvit question

Not much prep needed except to get it clean. Like already said, no need to do any priming under or over Gluvit. Paint colors over it just for cosmetics. It can be rolled but I'd suggest you use a brush so the Gluvit can be worked into the cracks and crannies. If you have some really loose rivits, seal them with 3M 5200 from the inside (before or after) the Gluvit.

Agreed. Zinc chromate is not needed, as a primer, over Gluv It.

I believe that I have read that Gluvit is not UV resistant. You will have to cover it.
