I scrolled thru Jegs and found this..Is this what I need to replace a 260 merc if I change the cam, head gaskets and plugs to brass. I am looking for a 1 piece motor and the 4 bolt is a plus I guess. I got the intake system of my existing motor now and all other components. I see it has mech pump provision also*. I know the cam is wrong for marine use but it seems all is there. I just bought my cam new and has 6 hours on it seems to me it would work still. NO? yes? maybe? hoping...LOL

Re: GM performance

That might be your best bet yet... Cam isn't radical, might have to switch oil pans, all your other stuff should bolt on. See what your local chevy dealer will sell it for. When I bought a crate motor I found out that not all chevy dealers wanted the same money for the same part number. Shop around. The ZZ4 350 is run stock out of the crate in jet sprint boats. These guys don't baby em either.. They seem to hold up.. Just a thought for ya...

Re: GM performance

Party,

I thought you had a non-vortec engine??? such that your intake would not fit. That cam has better lift than the stock hyd flat lifter cam. As long as it has the right LSA angle for marine, I'd stay with it. But, you can always mic your old cam to be sure it is good and the new unused lifters in the engine. I'd bet the head gaskets are composite ss ones, and won't need changing. Just ask a GM parts guy to find out.

Re: GM performance

Your right about that, the intake won't fit....I can't stand this, everytime I get a motor done for something there's allways issues. At least this ain't as bad as my Pontiac drag racing days...can you say kapowee on a regular basis Batman?!

Ya know it cost about 1600 to go thru a motor like this and for a few more you can get a GM marine long block new I see...I can't trust remans at all. I also found that GM has my exact engine in long block form for 2500...Might be the fastest avenue?
